Android One ambassador BQ Aquaris A4.5 comes to Europe

Android One is coming to Europe! Well, while that might be technically true, the roll-out is still in its infancy, with one phone in particular entering Spain and Portugal. The device in question is the BQ Aquaris A4.5.

It is a dual-SIM 4G smartphone with a 4.5-inch 540×960 pixel screen and a Dragontrail protective finish. Underneath the hood is a MediaTek MT6735M chipset, with a 1GHz quad-core CPU and 1GB of RAM. Storage is set at 16GB, but thankfully, there is also a microSD card slot for up to 64GB expansion.

The camera setup consists of an 8MP shooter on the back and a 5MP selfie one. A 2,470 mAh battery runs the show and, of course, you get the latest vanilla Android 5.1.1 out-of-the-box with support and updates directly from Google.

Android One has had some impact in developing markets, such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and The Philippines by delivering modern day hardware at really affordable prices. Yet this doesn’t exactly seem to be the case with the new EU pricing. In Spain the BQ Aquaris A4.5 will go for €169.90 and even more in Portugal – €179.90.

This is slightly troubling, considering that Android One hasn’t been doing all that great in Turkey, where it recently launched with an equally steep price tag of $260.
