UMI Iron Pro boasts fingerprint and eye security encased in metal

The UMI Iron Pro launched with a metal frame adorned with a number of security features. The affordable 5.5″ mid-ranger has a fingerprint reader (works in just 0.32s) on its back and Eyeprint ID, a sensor that uses the unique veins in your eyes for authentication.

The chassis is carved out of a single piece of aircraft-grade magnesium-aluminum alloy and measures 7.9mm thick and weighs 148g. Not bad for a 5.5″ 1080p screen (LTPS, 403ppi).

The UMI Iron Pro is a dual-SIM phone with 150Mbps LTE connectivity. One of the nanoSIM slots can house a microSD card instead (up to 64GB) if the built-in 16GB isn’t enough. Additional connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and USB Type-C.

The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6753 chipset (octa Cortex-A53 at 1.3GHz, Mali-T720 GPU) with a generous 3GB of RAM. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, but UMI Rootjoy lets you choose between a number of ROMs, including CyanogenMod, MIUI 6, Yun OS and others.

The camera department is built around a 13MP main camera (Sony IMX 214) with dual-LED flash and f/2.0 lens. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera (OmniVision OV8858) with its own flash and f/2.2 aperture.

The Iron Pro boasts a dedicated headphone amp that promises a noise-free experience. The Skyline notification feature is a soft line of light at the bottom, subbing for the regular notification light. You also get a roomy 3,100mAh battery.
