Flickbay Is the Bollywood Equivalent of IMDB
HIGHLIGHTS
Flickbay has all the details you need about Bollywood
It shows the latest clips, songs, and news from Indian movies
You can also find and buy newly released DVDs through this app
For movie buffs in India, the Flickbay app offers a single destination to know everything about Bollywood – from trailers and songs, to films that are playing, to listings of what movies are playing on TV and are out on DVDs. It’s a comprehensive database that gives Bollywood fans the same kind of access that has been the norm in Hollywood for a while.
Using the app, you can also like movies, share them with friends, or add them to your watchlist so you get notifications about release dates and so on.
The Flickbay app has fairly straightforward navigation – the first thing you see is a carousel showing trailers of upcoming movies, and then you have nine tabs below – Trailers, Music, News, In Theatres, Upcoming Films, Box Office, Reviews, On TV and On DVD.
The different sections are pretty self-explanatory; tap the Trailers tab and you will see trailers of new movies, with trending trailers highlighted, and if you tap the Music tab then you see the latest songs from new and upcoming movies. The app collects the best clips together so you don’t have to search for them on the Internet, and there’s a good selection available. The one problem is that you can’t select the quality of the trailers or music videos – this can be a problem if you’re on a mobile data connection, and you’d prefer to use less data.
The news section is curated from various agencies, to offer a quick look at all the latest Bollywood news at a glance.
But perhaps one of the best parts of the Flickbay app is the Theatres tab. It lists Now Playing and Upcoming movies. You’ll see the current movies, see the posters, information, and ratings. Tapping on a poster shows you the trailer, Flickbay score (review scores from other users), synopsis, box office collections, video clips and song clips, along with all the details such as cast and crew details and so on.
If you’re a Bollywood trivia buff then having all of this information at your fingertips is pretty cool – and unlike IMDB, Flickbay is focused on Bollywood and so has just about all the movies you’re looking for.
The Upcoming tab shows you the release dates for all upcoming movies, and you can add these films to the watchlist to get notifications about the movies. You can also sort released movies by box office earnings, or dive deep into reviews in the Reviews tab.
Two other useful features of the Flickbay app are the On TV section, and the On DVD section. On TV shows you which movies are playing on which channels – you can see the movie name, rating, scheduled time and channel, and you can also use the app to set a reminder so that you don’t miss the movies you want to watch.
On DVD on the other hand shows you the newest Bollywood films to release on DVD, along with all the details you’d expect. If any movie catches your fancy, the purchase button takes you to the Amazon India mobile page to buy the DVD. There’s a little room for improvement in this however, as it doesn’t launch the Amazon app even if it’s installed.
Overall, Flickbay is a great app to have on your phone if you’re a Bollywood buff. The only thing that’s missing is the ability to buy a movie ticket for movies that are currently playing in cinemas. If Flickbay can partner with BookMyShow or another ticket booking service, it will cover all our Bollywood needs.
Flickbay – Bollywood ka app is available free on Google Play and iTunes.
