Motorola Moto M smartphone has been launched in India for Rs 15,999 and will go on sale from December 14.

Moto M, which comes with a new all metal design and a fingerprint scanner on the back, has been officially launched today. Priced at Rs 15,999, the Moto M will be made available exclusively on Flipkart, starting December 14 at 11:59 pm. Moto M comes in two variants – 3GB RAM/32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage. As part of the launch, users will get exclusive offers only valid for December 15, when the phone gets released on Flipkart.

Moto M comes with a special exchange offer of up to Rs 2000 off for an older smartphone; Citibank credit card users get Rs 1000 off. There’s also Rs 1000 off on the Moto Pulse 2 Headset which will be available at Rs 499.

Motorola’s Moto M  marks a break from the Moto Z, Moto X series design. This is an all metal smartphone with rounded edges and antenna bands on the top and bottom; the Moto M also comes with a fingerprint scanner on the back. This is in contrast to other Moto phones like the Moto G4 Plus, the Moto Z, Moto Z Play, which have a square fingerprint scanner on the front.

In terms of specifications, Moto M features a 5.5-inch FHD (1920×1080) with 2.5D curved glass. It is powered by an octa-core processor (MediaTek), and will come in two variants: 3GB RAM/32GB internal memory and 4GB RAM/64GB internal memory. The smartphone is expandable, up to 128GB. The rear camera is 16-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture, dual tone flash and PDAF support, the front camera is 8MP and the phone has a 3050mAh battery with Turbo Charging support. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box with Dolby Audio support, and is also water and dust resistant.

For Lenovo, which owns Motorola this has been a great year in terms of shipments. Lenovo as a smartphone brand (this includes Motorola brand as well) is now the number two smartphone brand in India in terms of shipments, according to research firm International Data Corporation’s (IDC) data for Q3, 2016. According to IDC, Lenovo has close to 10 per cent share of the Indian smartphone market, ahead of Micromax and Xiaomi which have a little over 7 per cent share each.
