UPDATE: Students at North Mobile Middle School were evacuated Tuesday morning because of a problem with the school’s sprinkler system.
Earlier, the school system reported the evacuation was caused because of a gas leak. Subsequently, it was reported the problem was not a gas leak.
“We have evacuated all the students. They are safe,” Mobile County Public Schools spokeswoman Rena Philips told FOX10 News in an email. “They are on the football field and are being supervised. Maintenance is on the scene and is working on repairing it.”
As soon as the sprinkler system is repaired, students will be allowed to return to class, Philips said.
