HTC starts rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update to U11 Life smartphones

NEW DELHI: It seems that Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for its smartphones. Company’s VP, product management Mo Versi confirmed via Twitter that the company has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for the recently-launched HTC U11 Life.

The company launched the HTC U11 Life with Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system topped with company’s own Sense UI. The update will bring security patch for the month of November along with some UI enhancements such as Picture in Picture (PIP), Snooze notifications, Background limits, notification channels and others. The update weighs 1GB in size.

For those unaware, the HTC U11 Life comes with a 5.2-inch full HD display with 1080×1920 pixel resolution. The display is protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass on top. The smartphone runs Android 7.1 Nougat operating system topped with HTC Sense UI. The device is powered by an octa-core QualcommSnapdragon 630 processor coupled with 3GB/4GB RAM.

The smartphone offers 32GB/64GB of internal storage and users can further expand the storage up to 2TB by adding a microSD card. The device sports a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and BSI sensor. The front houses a 16MP selfie camera. The smartphone comes with IP67 rating and 2600mAH battery with QuickCharge 3.0 support.
Recently, HTC announced that it will bring back the dual rear camera setup in its smartphones. Chialin Chang, HTCs president confirmed the news at the launch event of HTC U11+. “We’ll definitely be releasing a dual-camera phone next year, but we’ll need to figure out how to make this feature stand out,” Chang told media executives at the event.
Avoiding going into the details, Chang said that like this year, the company will be launching only five to six smartphones next year as well.
