Nokia 2.2 now on sale in India: Price, specifications and how to buy

The Nokia 2.2 is available for purchase in India starting today. The company launched its latest entry-level smartphone last week in the country to succeed last year’s Nokia 2.1. In terms of upgrades, the Nokia 2.2 brings a brand new design language along with updated hardware and software. In addition to sporting a waterdrop display and dedicated Google Assistant button, the Nokia 2.2 gets a faster processor and is now the first phone in the Nokia 2 series to be part of the Android One program.

The Nokia 2.2 price in India starts at Rs 6,999 for the 2GB + 16GB variant, which also makes it the most affordable Android One device in the market right now. The 3GB + 32GB model is priced at Rs 7,999. One should note that these are introductory prices that will be offered until June 30. Starting July, the Nokia 2.2 will cost Rs 7,699 and Rs 8,699, respectively.

HMD Global’s newest budget smartphone is now available on Nokia.com/phones and via offline retail stores across India starting today. The phone is also expected to be available on Flipkart, but we did not see it listed on the e-commerce platform at the time of writing this story.

Jio subscribers purchasing the Nokia 2.2 will get instant cashback of Rs 2,200 along with 100GB additional data which will be applicable on recharges of Rs 198 and Rs 299. The cashback will be offered in the form of 44 coupons worth Rs 50 each.

Nokia 2.2 specifications

In terms of design, the Nokia 2.2 brings a brand new display to the Nokia 2 series. It sports a 5.71-inch HD+ waterdrop display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and 400 nits brightness. The plastic polycarbonate panel on the back can be removed and interchanged with a Xpress-On covers. The Nokia 2.2 will be available in Tungsten Black and Steel colours, while Xpress-On covers will be sold separately in Pink Sand, Green and Ice Blue colours.

The other big addition to the design is the dedicated Google Assistant button in the side of the frame as seen previously on the Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2. The button on the side of the frame will allow users to quickly launch the AI with a tap. Users will also be able to double tap the button to bring up relevant information for the day, or long press the button to make longer requests.

The Nokia 2.2 is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek Helio A22 chipset paired with 2GB and 3GB of RAM along with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage, respectively. The handset support two SIM cards and a micoSD card slots that can be found under the removable back cover.

The Nokia 2.2 sports a 13MP f/2.2 primary camera with an LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera housed under the teardrop notch. The Nokia 2.2 is also the first in the Nokia 2 series to support face unlock out of the box. The handset houses a 3,000mAh battery. Unlike the Nokia 2.1 which was an Android Go phone, the Nokia 2.2 is now an Android One device that runs on a full-fledged version of Android Pie.
