TOP 6 SMARTPHONE SCREEN PROBLEMS

FROZEN PHONE SCREEN

Having your phone screen freeze is frustrating, but it’s usually a simple fix. If you have an older phone or one that’s maxed out on storage space, your screen may start to freeze more often. Restart your phone to see if that fixes your problem. If that doesn’t work, and you have an older phone with a removable battery, try removing your battery, then putting it back in your phone before you restart it.

For newer phones, you can perform a “soft reset”. The buttons you need to press will vary depending on the generation of your iPhone. For most iPhones: press and release the volume down button, then hold down the power button. When you see the Apple logo appear on your screen you can release the power button.

For a Samsung phone, hold down the volume down button and the power button for 7-10 seconds. When you see the Samsung logo appear on the screen you can let go of those buttons.

VERTICAL LINES ON THE SCREEN

The most common cause of vertical lines on your iPhone’s screen is damage to the phone itself. It usually means that your phone’s LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is damaged or it’s ribbon cables are bent. Most of the time this type of damage is caused by your phone taking a hard fall.

ZOOMED IN IPHONE SCREEN

If your lock screen has the “Zoom Out” feature enabled, it can be difficult to disable. To get around that you can double-tap your screen with three fingers to turn it off.

FLICKERING SCREEN

If your phone’s screen display is flickering, there are a variety of causes depending on the model. Screen flickering problems can be caused by an app, software, or because your phone has been damaged.

COMPLETELY DARK SCREEN

A totally dark screen usually means there is a hardware issue with your phone. Occasionally a software crash can cause your phone to freeze and turn dark, so it’s best to bring your phone into our experts at The Lab instead of trying a hard reset at home.

If you risk trying a hard reset of your phone at home you can lose a lot of your data. If you bring your phone into The Lab we can determine if the issue is related to your phone’s screen, board, or other components.

Sometimes the problem with your screen can be solved by doing a simple “soft reset” rather than a hard reset that risks wiping all of the data off your phone. Just follow the instructions outlined earlier in this post to try that simple fix.

TOUCH SCREEN GLITCHES

Touch screens work by being able to sense which part of your screen is being touched, then deciding which actions you’re trying to take. If your touch screen is glitching, bring it into The Lab and we can take a look and see what is causing this malfunction.

The most common cause of a touch screen problem is a crack in the touch digitizer. This problem can be solved by simply replacing the screen on your device.
