Nokia 3 Android 9 Pie update now rolling out

Nokia 3 (2017) is now receiving the stable Android 9 Pie update around the world. HMD Global chief Juho Sarvikas announced the Android Pie update for the two-year-old Nokia 3 smartphone on Twitter. This also means that the Nokia 3 has now received two major Android software updates.

The Nokia 3 (2017) was launched with Android Nougat and was updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in April 2018. HMD Global is currently the only company (apart from Google of course) to update almost its entire portfolio of Nokia smartphones to Android 9 Pie. The Nokia 3 was one of the first Nokia smartphones launched under HMD Global in 2017.

Back in 2017, the Nokia phones launched were not part of the Android One program, but HMD still made sure it delivered on timely security updates. The Nokia 3 has been discontinued in India, but existing users will be delighted to know that the device can be updated to Android Pie now. The update is rolling out right now and it may take a few days before every Nokia 3 unit receives it. Nokia 3 owners can manually check for the update by heading to Settings and Software Update.

With Android 9 Pie, the Nokia 3 should get features like Adaptive Brightness, Adaptive Battery, Digital Wellbeing and so on. It is unclear whether the Nokia 3 (2017) will get the gesture navigation feature considering the phone comes with capacitive navigation buttons on the bottom bezel.

The Nokia 3 (2017) sports a 5-inch HD LCD display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. It offers an 8-megapixel camera on the front and back. The Nokia 3 houses a 2,630mAh battery and supports 4G VoLTE. The Nokia 3 (2017) was succeeded by the Nokia 3.1 last year and the Nokia 3.2 earlier this year.
