As a legally motivated rush job, Apple AAPL -1.5% iOS 12.1.2 was always a concern and early reports of mobile data problems have now turned into a flood. Unfortunately, this is also being compounded by a serious new complication…
With millions of users around the world still upgrading to iOS 12.1.2 despite warnings (including one Maine, US user taking matters into his own hands), it has now emerged that the update is breaking WiFi as well. Worse still, a lot of users hit with the cellular data bug are suffering from broken WiFi on top, turning their iPhones into expensive paperweights.
Once again, complaints from users about the iOS 12.1.2 WiFi problems can be found in every major continent: from North America and South America to Europe and Asia. Furthermore, like the mobile data bug, iPhone owners in the United States are suffering more than most:

But the US is far from alone, with angry users contacting Apple from locations are far apart as Malaysia, Bangalore, Denmark, Columbia, Egypt, India and the Philippines.
And yet, just as with the cellular data break, Apple has remained silent. The official @AppleSupport service has been busy responding to affected users, but each response simply asks that the problem is not discussed publicly (eg 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 etc).
Apple is now beta testing iOS 12.1.3 – another dedicated bug fix – though the company has yet to reveal what the update contains and the primary motivation again appears to be legal concerns. That said, the outcry is surely loud enough that Apple must also address the cellular data and WiFi problems at the heart of iOS 12.1.2.
So until then, please stay away from iOS 12.1.2 and warn those who may not know. It is always impossible to gauge the scale of any iOS bug due to the sheer number of iPhones in use, but why risk your cellular and WiFi connectivity for an update which does nothing important…
