HTC is reported to be in talks with Indian smartphone manufacturers for brand licencing to make a comeback in the industry. The brand is in talks with three Indian-based smartphone manufacturers.

As per a report The Economics Times, HTC is talking to Micromax, Lava and Karbonn for brand licencing. The basically wants to give its brand to other manufacturers and earn royalty in return. The report highlights that discussions with the Indian brands are in advanced stages and it highly likely Lava and Karbonn teaming up to bid for the HTC brand licence.

The move is mutually beneficial for all above-mentioned companies. With the advent of Chinese players, the competition is now pretty stiff and we have already seen a number of Indian brands handing over the market share to their Chinese rivals.

HTC, on the other hand, has already perished from the Indian smartphone market. With the fresh move, Indian smartphone brands could make a comeback in the smartphone segment, while, HTC will earn money via royalties. The report further highlights that the company is looking for strategic options for India. “We will have more to announce at a later date,” the HTC spokesperson told the publication.
